Increase Website traffic - Get more clicks
The ultimate goal is an increase in traffic that results in more sales or brand awareness. If your web pages are listed in the top 10 search results you might capitalize that position by increasing sales. Top ten positions can take time and, depending on your business, can be expensive. While you work on your position in the natural listings there are some things you can do for immediate results.
One method you can use to increase traffic to your web site is Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising. This is where you bid on search terms and the search engine returns a sponsored link to your site for these phrases. If you are willing to pay the right price and your page is relevant to the phrase then you can get targeted traffic almost immediately. With Google AdWords PPC advertising you can track the value of search words and terms. There is some work involved if you want good results from PPC. At Blizzard, we manage the PPC campaigns for many of our clients. The search engines do provide some good information for the do-it-yourself types. In most cases the amount of time you spend doing PPC yourself could be better spent running your company. If you leave PPC to the pros at Blizzard the PPC setup and maintenance cost will usually cover itself when you consider the time it takes, the higher click-thru-rate (CTR) we could achieve for you, and the fact that we have lowered the CPC (Cost Per Click) for every account our clients have setup on their own and then hired us to "fix it". We were able to lower the CPC by 30% for one client that was already paying a "big name" firm to manage his AdWords account.
Once your natural search listings have matured and you begin to get free traffic you could reduce your PPC advertising, but should you?. At minimum you should continue to cover the terms you don't have a top 5 position for but we highly recommend that you maintain a PPC campaign for your relevant terms. We have experienced number one listings for terms but users still click the PPC ad rather than the top search result. You have to ask yourself if you can afford to lose those potential clients that almost always click the sponsored links. Some people find value in the fact that you are willing to pay for their click others just don't know the difference and click the sponsored links. If they click your natural listing, great, if they choose a sponsored ad and you aren't there then you have reduced your exposure by reducing your AdWords budget and target phrases.
In the end you need to attract the client, keep his attention, and close the deal. This requires a combination of optimization, marketing, and design for the desired result, a sale.
